“From the time I was small I took it for granted that everyone could see the horizon.”

The Wyoming State Museum welcomes Cody Artist Rebecca Weed to the Wyoming Artists Gallery.

“When I travel to locations that are filled with trees, buildings, or people that obscure our sense of space and direction I feel claustrophobic,” Weed said.

Working primarily in oil and graphite, Weed’s work describes her relationship to the vast, open spaces she grew up in. Her paintings and drawings are at times funny, at other times mysterious. She holds an undergraduate degree in printmaking and an MFA in painting from the University of Montana. She is currently an adjunct professor at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo.

The Wyoming Artists Gallery, on the second floor of the museum, brings artists from across the state to Wyoming’s capital city. Our goal is to exhibit art made in and about Wyoming for our 40,000 annual visitors, both local and international, and to promote Wyoming artists, both established and emerging.
